Lent, the time of grace

Crucifix

During Lent, we hear many times that we must return.
I think many times we have come back, got up and gone to
onfession. Right there is the grace that Lent brings us.
It is necessary in life.

Today we meditate on some thoughts from Wilfrid Stinissen:

The folly of love

We often moan and complain when we have to give up something or sacrifice something.
But our sacrifices are so small compared to the sacrifice God has made for us.
It is not man who suffers first. God has first taken the suffering upon himself.
The Son has entered into our conditions and suffered for us, in a human body and with a human heart.
But before that, the Father has taken upon himself the sacrifice of renouncing his Son, his everything.
There is no love without sacrifice, love is a constant sacrifice.
The divine persons of the Trinity have for all eternity lived in a perfect, sacrificial love.
But they renounce their blissful companionship to save man. That is why God loves completely.
God's love for us is completely incomprehensible. There is only one suitable word for it: folly.
The folly of love is when the Father sends his beloved Son to men to suffer and die for them!
The center of the universe is the place where the cross stands upright.
It is the cross that reveals the whole meaning of creation.
When we look up to the cross, we know who God is, and who man is made to be.
It is a love that does not back down from anything.
God has in Christ reconciled the world to himself (2 Cor 5,19).
This God is not distant, indifferent and inaccessible.
On the cross, God shows himself weak, betrayed and vulnerable in his love.

Herre, gi mitt hjerte ro.
